Hi, I'm author, artist, and entrepreneur, Michael M. Clements. I've left the United States three times at various stages of my life, and I'm excited to share my wisdom and insights with you.
I’m an autodidact polymath—or at least I play one convincingly in real life. Over the years, I’ve worn a lot of creative hats: Editor-in-Chief of two leading Washington, D.C. magazines; performer on stage and screen in China and the U.S.; outsider artist; illustrator; musician in a band in Japan; and author of the poetry collections The Bali Paradigm and GenXiled.
Liberty Abroad! continues what has become a lifelong exploration of creativity, reinvention, and global living—how we change, why we move, and what we carry with us when we do.
I’m also an entrepreneur. I founded Genki Media LLC, co-founded Creative Leisure Group (a Bali-based property and design company), and launched ArtJamz, an experiential arts venture I later successfully exited. I’ve always been drawn to building things—ideas, communities, experiences—then seeing where they lead.
Spoken word holds a special place for me because it lives at the intersection of storytelling and performance. Across everything I do, I try to blend humor, heart, and a little hard-earned wisdom.
I’m based in Bali now, where I write, speak, and publish for restless souls and creatives alike. And when I’m not creating, you’ll usually find me sipping matcha lattes, diving with sharks, or scootering my son to school—though never all at once.
